Hello Aussie girl. What terrible news!! I will sign the petition right away. I will post the website on my network so you can get more signatures. When we pass on a petition, we usually collect over 25000 signatures. I will contact one of the larger organizations to see if they would consider bringing this terrible issue in the light of many conservation members. Thank you for letting us know. Great work!
We can make the difference!!!

That's really wonderful.
Where were you about 2 months ago during the Wellington Pigeon Petition!
Glad to know you have some clout with another group. I could be calling on you.

Hello Charis! Here is an important note regarding the petition. I promise to work hard with any issue because no issue is too small when you are saving a life. Unfortunately, the bigger network that I work with does not always take on every case. It just that there are too many issues day to day… they need to pick their fights or we would end up getting a petition request every 5 minutes. For example, I was fighting the township, which were building a new by pass in the middle of wetland. I talked to the politicians, went to every meeting I could, but in the end, it ended up couldn’t get much support from the bigger group because it was more a local issue. When we had elections for the township assembly, 2 of the Candidates promised to take this issue on BEFORE the election, so small group of us VOTED for them and guess what…after they were elected, I have never heard from them again. So when I try to get more people moving I have to go through the channels, (unfortunately I am not the decision maker).
I don’t always get the approval. HOWEVER, I promise you, I will put all my efforts and my network to get the word out for something I believe in. It is very disappointing when you try to do something against a bigger power (developer, government or politician) but I learned not to give up because if I and people like us give up, who will stand up for the animals that can not fight for themselves????

I wanted to let you know because I don’t wanted to disappointed you …

Do any of you own leather products, by any chance? Or eat meat?
Adidas and Nike use kangaroo leather in their shoes as its the lightest and strongest leather. If you wear either of these, you kill kangaroos.
Why exactly should we be protecting the kangaroo, and not sustainably harvesting them? Australia only harvests about half of its set kangaroo quota. Is everyone here a vegetarian?
Do you not understand that these kangaroos are competing for space with 3 endangered species? What, cute and cuddly wins? So what if its a moth and lizards? Endangered species need help. The kangaroos do not.

I am. I avoid Adidas and Nike too. Many of us feel very strongly about doing no harm. If you don't want to sign the petition, I respect that...don't sign it, just leave the rest of us be. Could be this is a thread that you avoid. I really don't want to argue with you .

I agree, with Charis, Yes im also vegetarian, do not wear leather either.
The site where the kangaroos are in danger is about to be developed for housing, so now what!!!
Wildcare are getting ready in case this goes ahead, they are asking for trained Kangaroo rehabbers to be ready for an influx of babies (Joeys) to be raised on substitute milk and cared for until ready for release.
What a damn shame, why cant they all just leave the poor animals alone.
They were born there, this is Their home. I wish humans and animals could co habit in peace and harmony.

It is a shame. People displace animals from their homes and then kill them. Why do they think they have a right to do that? Makes me so mad.

Yes i agree.
I have received an email from the Author of the petition with a thankyou to all of you and an updated News link which is
http://www.news.com.au/story/0,23599...-29277,00.html

here is the email:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hi Helen,
Our website was down all day yesterday after the server was
'compromised' - we don't know yet whether we were the targets, but
it's quite likely. There are some nasty folk out there. However, the
overwhelming public response has been very supportive. Thank you for
adding those links to the other fora.
Both the www.wildcare.com.au and www.canberraroos.com websites are
back online now.
There's a news report here that is reasonably accurate:
http://www.news.com.au/story/0,23599...-29277,00.html
I went down to the site last night and the kangaroos had calmed down
somewhat after being very agitated around 2.00pm. There are a
determined group of protesters still camped out at the front gate and
they are monitoring the site closely. There will also be Japanese and
Korean TV crews there this morning.
Best regards...
...Brett
