You know, I'm getting this all mixed up. Edward is Charle's brother, correct? The one who married Fergie? Before I thought he was William's brother but I think that's Harry. I can't get my royals straight. Maybe it's good that I'm a Yank.

Yeah, I did remember reading something about Queen Elizabeth keeping pigeons once. That they were a present from someone. And here is Edward... well, let's not get into that again.

Prince Andrew married Fergie.

The Royal Family

I will clarify the relationship ( though why I don't know)

Edward is the brother of Charles ( married Diana, then Camilla), Andrew ( who married Fergie) and Anne - all children of the queen. Edward married Sophie (a commoner!!) who is now the Countess or something of Wessex.

Philip is married to the Queen, he is Edward's father, so someone shot the pigeon ( it doesn't say who) and Edward tried to put it out of its misery , but not very well by all accounts.... phew - Hope that clears up the Royal lineage for now.

It is sad how many people automatically wish to put an Animal 'out of it's misery' for injuries that likely 95 percent of the time would be entirely surviveable with appropriate medical care and attentions.

Whyever do they not do the same for eachother I wonder? if someone breaks an arm, falls from a ladder and is stunned, or is ill somehow, why not merely bludgeon the sufferer to death with repeated blows from some extemporaneous insturment of some kind, to put "them" out of their misery also?

Or, to do this to one's self even, you know, say, you have been grazed by a bullet, and, well, start bludgeoning yourself to death with a cane or firepoker or jack-handle or something....

Sheeesh...!

Kitty Paws, you are clearing up this royalty family stuff simply - simply, because you love us. I always seem to get Edward and Andrew mixed up. Edward looks like an Andrew to me and Andrew looks like an Edward to me. Well, I don't have to worry anyways. I'm not planning on meeting the royal family any time soon. I'd probably step on the queen's foot or something if I did. And I can only imagine how she'd react to that.

Phil, I sometimes feel like you do about this "putting one out of misery" stuff. If there's a way to save the animal and it can go on in life without much pain, I think they should try to save it instead of killing it. But I know, I know, the royals probably didn't think to do something like that. It's just too bad. Poor pigeon.

I've got to say that I really agree with Yong. Hunting should be used to put food on the table, not for a sport. I can't imagine the mindset of people who think hunting is fun.

It was absolutely cruel what he did to that poor pigeon. I really wish they'd find another sport to enjoy besides hunting animals. Why not do like Paris Hilton and try to become an actor? (Only kidding. ) Or collect stamps or something along that line. There's so much other stuff they can do.
I think we are talking about two different Prince Edwards here. The article said the Prince is 84, so not the young lad we all know here in the states. With millions of hunters in this country (US), we all have a relative or co-worker for sure, that enjoys killing as a favorite past time. In my state of Pa. alone, about a million people take to the fields to see what can be shot. So lets not throw too many stones across the pond.

Unhappy

No Excuse!

I like others have choosen not to read the article, It would only upset me, especially after just sending "Baby" to his/her new home at Cynthia's.

If I can afford to take Baby to a vet and find it a loving home, just little old me, then why not them?

I think as someone previously said "its the old school mentality" they have been brought up with this attitude...the attitude that Diana wanted to change for her boys..

I believe in Karma...what goes round comes round...Do you think they have ever been truly happy? No I don't think so. The press will have a field day with this and I expect we here in the UK will be hearing more!

Well,

The reality is, if you are out in the field in order to kill something in order to have a jolly good time, in this case pheasants. What are the odds when finding an injured bird, they are going to say, stop !! We got to rush this injured bird to the animal hospital ? Not bloody likely I say.

I can't personally blame the prince completely. After all my local SPCA "humane society" kills all kinds of perfectly healthy animals every week. But, that is another subject.

In the news tonight they said the Vice President shot a man he was hunting with. The man is expected to recover.
