Tony Banks MP - 1943 - 2006Tony Banks, a respected MP in the Animal Rights movement has died at the age of 62 from a massive stroke suffered whilst on holiday in the USA.
Tony was a fantastic advocate for the animal rights movement being instrumental as a poliical mouthpiece and representative in banning hunting with dogs in the UK. He also was a campaigner for the Trafalgar Square pigeons when Ken Livingstone, Mayor of London decided he wanted to evict the pigeon feed seller and slowly "starve" the pigeons out of the Square. This happened a few years ago and things have settled down with pigeons still being fed by Save the Trafalgar Square Pigeons Group - http://savethepigeons.org ( who incidentally mention Pigeons.com for advice on their webpage). There is a news article at http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/england/2492711.stm mentioning Tony Banks ( whose father bred pigeons). I would warn that the top of the article does show dead pigeons so view with caution but... it does show the passion that people have for the pigeons. |

SorrySorry I should have added that the world will miss a very, lovely passionate man whose untimely death will leave a hole in the lives he left behind and the animals that he fought so vehemently for.
My thoughts and condolences go to his family at this sad time. ![]() |
