Hi Welder,
I am sad and sorry to hear about your losses. Rollers do not automatically home to a loft. Following a training schedule with them for the first few weeks is a good idea, so that they learn where "home" is. I'm just a beginner with Rollers, but there may be others here or at roller-pigeon.com who can help. When the birds are properly trained from the beginning, mishaps are easier to avoid. But bad habits are harder to break, and can be dangerous for the birds - as you have seen. If they fly for more than an hour, or land anywhere other than "home," they are vulnerable to predators. You need to manage their behavior so that they do not do this. It is hard work at first, but well worth the effort. Perhaps there is someone near you who can be a mentor?
