Question

and now...*drum roll*

poor baby dove was too messed up, and passed on early yesterday morning. with 2 broken wings, a broken leg, and who knows what else on the inside, it was too much for the poor little one. so ok. it's what was meant to be. so today i got up, walked outside, and there at the bottom of my front porch steps was a very greasy scraggly pigeon with his beak stuck open. i looked at him a moment, then went back inside. came back out 20 minutes later, and he was sitting right outside my screen door as if to say 'HEY LADY! Did you notice my beak has an issue here?!" So i got a big bowl of water and some seeds, and offered it to him. i sat the water right in front of me, and he hopped right in lol. he took a long drink, and a bath lol. he tried to eat some food, but his beak had something stuck in it. i scooped him up, and got the glob of whatever out of the side and inside of his beak and set him back down. he went right back to the water and drank some more, then ate a few seeds. after a bit i had to get my dogs out n such, but i was worried to leave him there like that. so i put him in patunia's old cage out on the back porch in a nice cool spot. gave him a box, huge bowl of water to bathe in/drink, and some more food. he seems quite content, and perhaps relieved! so! will keep all posted on THIS one lol..not sure what's wrong with it, it has a black smudge on the front/corner of his head, and some messed up feathers. and the thing stuck in his beak i'm not sure WHAT that was!

Looks like you are a pigeon magnet.

Is anything still visible in his beak/mouth? Just wondering if it may be a sticky oil or tar type substance, or something suggesting illness. Does he keep his beak closed okay now?

John

I did go back and clean his beak out well with a wet q-tip. i can't tell if it's an illness or not, he seems to be eating very very well and drinking plenty of water since his beak cleaning. whatever was stuck in there was covered in a mucous plug on the end that was down his throat, the part that was sticking out of his beak looked like some form of stick or dehydrated jerky? he took a nice bath and is looking much cleaner and happier. i'm hoping by morning he'll be strong enough again to fly away happily, and perhaps paying a visit now and then to my birdbath hehe. he doesn't seem to be acting sick at all, and he can fly just fine...not sure why he let me pick him up....twice lol. maybe he just knows i'll help him? tho, i know each and every pigeon in this lil area, and, i have never seen this one before lol. well, off to go give a quick peek to the widger, and also a quick peek to see what my 14 year old is up to... *small cringe*
