Can pigeon choker?


Hi. i was just wondering if pigeons can choke!

Yes, I think all animals can choke on something. Do you think one of your pigeons is choking? Sometimes I've seen one do a side-to-side neck movement that makes me think they have a seed or something stuck. Then I put their water dish in front of them and they usually get a long drink and that solves that.

yeah, i've seem some of them choking, but luckily they haven't died!!

I've seen mine choke occasionally but they were able to get the offending item out of their throats. I have a friend who raises short-faced pigeons (tiny, almost non-existent beaks) and he lost one when it choked on a piece of corn. I feed my pigeons a mix that contains popcorn, not the big field corn, but once in awhile a few pieces of field corn get mixed in. They don't eat it anyway, but when I see it in the mix I always remove it for fear of someone choking.
