Dory has come back home.

Well, seems that Dory's mom, Rebekkah, has some issues and is probably going back to California in the next month. She asked me this morning if I would find a home for Dory! I said "Dory has a home right here with me" So, instead of putting Punkin in with the YB's, he and Dory are moving in together in their own little apartment. Dory is over a year old and Punkin is a little less than 2 months old, so for now, they'll just be friends. They've been playing together in the hallway, but I didn't want either of them to get used to being together, because I thought Dory was going back home today. Oh well, things work out for a reason I guess.

Dory is SUCH a LOVELY Pij!

I'm sure she and Punkin will have a wonderful time! An "odd" couple match made in heaven??? lol

Hope all works out for Dory's previous "mom!"

Hugs and Scritches to all!

That is wonderful that you can offer Dory a home, and with a built-in pigeon friend. Punkin is so lucky!

Even though she will miss Rebekkah, she will have the best of homes and the very best of buddies. She sure is pretty.

You can't tell how tiny she is from the pictures. Next time I'm out there, I"m going to weigh her. How much does a normal size racing pidgy weigh anyway?

While I really can't answer your question, I CAN tell you that Squeaks weighed in at 400 grams about a year ago...

When I found him, as you know, he was only a Squeaker: 30 -35 days old. I was absolutely shocked because he sure looked like a FULL GROWN (big!) pigeon!

He must have been bred for longer distances!

I KNOW that Warren would know...

Ok.....so I weighed Dory. Man.....she is tiny ........260 grams. Weighed Punkin too while I was at it. He weighs 320 grams.
Now, I need to weigh her Mom, who is a small bird also, but not THAT small and a few others. This is something I've never done. Weigh a pigeon. I always go by how they "feel" in the hand. How exactly would I weigh a racing pigeon that doesn't want me to hold it, much less put it on a scale and hold still.

Put the bird in a light weight container and weigh the container and bird together. Then weigh the container by itself and subtract from the combined weight. Some scales have a tare feature that will handle this for you.
