Hitting windows!!!Ari and Lux keep on flying into my windows, even though most of them have sheer curtains on them. What should I do?? Will they figure it out and stop trying or are they going to keep doing it until one of them gets hurt??? My aunt has two Military Macaws and one of them did the same thing so she keeps his wings clipped, she suggested that I do the same.
Does anyone have any advice for me, right now I am keeping them in their cage until I figure something out. If clipping wings is the solution, I need advice on how to do it. I have done it before but only on my LoveBird, and I don't want to screw it up. They are fairly tame but I don't know if they will tolerate me doing that to them. Thanks, Meg, Lux and Ari!! |

Sorry to hear of this, hope they are allright.
1. You can put stickers on the windows so they know it is not a thru-way. 2. Make sure they are getting enough vitamin A in their diet, that they can see well. This is not a joke, it is possible. Make sure they have plenty of corn and other vitamin A grains, seds and legumes, like green peas. My pigeons would fly into the storm door on their coop everytime I washed the windows, cause it looks absolutely like there aren't any windows. I just put some wildlife stickers on the glass and/or leave the windows dirty with the dust of their feathers on them.

They will get used to the windows. Every new bird I get does it a couple of times until they figure out there a window.. Luckily had nobody ever get hurt.
But they will stop in a day or two. Reti |

Hi Meg,This can be a indoor or outdoor problum I assume your birds are pets which you have indoors trying to get out.the stickers. That someone pointed out in one of the other post is the best answer. This also applies for birds on the outside flying into windows but the reason for their action is trying to escape a hawk,in this case they will hit the window at high speed, needless to say they are knocked sensless and in many cases hurt.I have had some of my birds do this.Once one of my birds flew into my neibors open door to evade a hawk. Hi Meg, Lux and Ari,
Both my birds did the same thing. Kind of a panic reaction to getting away from me when I first brought them indoors. Of course they had no idea what glass was. I was lucky too and no-one got hurt. They learned fast though and don't try flying through glass anymore but at the time I really worried. Especially as my one bird hit the glass so hard. Full flight, top speed and wham! It was horrible. But she survived. Thankfully she only had a few feet from liftoff and could not build up enough speed to cause serious damage. Treesa is right about stickers. Anything really will work. And dirty windows is the best and easiest way to make it clear to the birds their is something in their way. Now isn't that a good excuse to stop cleaning windows!
