Question About SizeHi all!
Well, Floyd is thriving, flying all over the house having a grand life. I do have a question about his size though. He is probably almost three months old at this point, and we are wondering how much more he will be expected to grow. My DH says most of the pigeons around his work are similar in color, but are much larger than Floyd is. But Floyd has actually already grown a lot from when we got him at two weeks of age. So will he be expected to grow much bigger than he is now? |

He probably will fill out over the next few months. Pigeons do come in assorted sizes and it's hard to know what breeds are in Floyd's background. To be determined on this one.
Sounds like he has a happy life.

They definitely do fill out as they get older. Often hand-fed babies don't grow to be quite as large as parent-fed babies. He may also be a female, as they don't grow quite as big and bulky as the males do. I'm glad to hear he's doing so well and you are enjoying him.

Oh, it would be hard not to be in love with Floyd, believe me. All the kissing and cuddling he allows, riding around on shoulders, and playing with the red buttons on the TV remote (he obviously sees in color, anything red and he's after it!). He helps the kids with their homework every night (well, he grabs their pencils while they're writing, anyway), tries to take baths when they do, and always comes when he's called, except when it's time to go to bed, when he gets very naughty and tries all sorts of things to avoid getting put up.
What's not to love? He's just a very, very special fellow. Can't tell you how grateful I am to all of you here who encouraged us to keep him. We shall wait and see how big he grows I guess! |

That's so funny, I have one little one who I just finished hand-feeding who also loves red. She also picks at the buttons on the remote (though they are gray). When I have my red boots on, she follows me all over pecking at them. She also seems to enjoy the blue nail polish I have on my toes, she's always pecking at my feet with the most curious look. I know chickens see in color so I guess pigeons do, too. My chickens used to attack anything red, just in case it was a Coke can. If it was, they would knock it over and drink as much out of the carpet as they could before we got to it.

Oh, Cola-stealing pigeons...that IS naughty!! Oh well, I can't blame them. Floyd tries to take the toothpaste off the sides of my mouth ( I don't let him) but it sounds like not only their eyesight, but also their taste buds are quite sensitive!
