Should I get another pigeon!?Okay, so as you may know, I volunteer at Wildlife Rehab (which is where I got Baby Pidge). We are OVERSTOCKED on PIGEONS LOOKING FOR HOMES (if you're in Pennsylvania) but there is one that completely white! Ever since I've seen pictures, I've wanted a white pigeon, and here's my chance!!!
My question really is, is it more likely that this pigeon and my Baby Pidge will get along or not get along? I know not to put them together straight away and am looking for a larger cage for the new pigeon just in case they do get along. Also... this pigeon is much older than Baby was when I got her. She isn't too keen on people, but that will change once she gets used to me, yes? Thank you so much! I'm always surprised at how quickly you fellow pigeon-lovers get back to threads!! ![]() |

Thank you for your interest in the white pigeon. In regards to your youngster and the white pigeon, I would not put them together until the youngster is grown up and matured a bit. They may or may not get along, depends on whether you have two hens, male and hen or two males...two males may be a problem...there is plenty of time...and I would wait on that.
The bird may change, but it will take a little time. Hand feeding is the best way to get the bird to become tamer. He may not change completely but will soften with lots of 1 on 1 and especially hand feeding, and hand feeding alone. More importantly....In regards to the pigeons needing homes, are they banded pigeons? If so, you need to get all the information from the bands (letters and numbers in their order)and report them to 911 pigeon alert, so owners can be located. http://www.teranetsystems.com/911PAContact/ Can you also give us an idea of how many pigeons there are (banded and not banded), that need homes and if any are handicapped? We certainly would appreciate it. We can certainly post them for adoption here, and find homes for all of them.

As far as them getting along there is a good chance. Most pigeons like other pigeons.
If you get the white one, and it sees how you are with Baby Pidge, it may also help in bringing it around. Treats, talking, feeding only by hand, and time is the only way you'll know for sure though. Best of luck! Hilly

HI bp! WELCOME TO PT!
Treesa has given excellent advice, as always... Personally, from what you have said I would GO FOR IT! Following Treesa's guidelines, of course... You won't know unless you go for the gusto! They may end up being BMF(Best Mates Forever... )Do keep us updated on your situation! Hugs and Scritches to you all Shi & Squeaks (who also gives a wing and a half up (due to partial amputation) in approval. He keeps quite busy "supervising" 3 cats...and me!) ![]() |
