Spot is missing! :(Hello, I'm new here, and was wondering if anyone can help me. I take care of a flock of pigeons that come and go as they please. For the last 2 years, it's always the same pigeons, with a few new ones here and there as my beautiful flock grows. Spot is my main love, she is here every single day for the last 2 years, and never misses a meal! She is usually the first to arrive, and the last to leave. If I don't see her, I call out "SPOTTT" and she shows up within minutes. In the evenings, I sit with her as she eats her dinner so that no cats bother her since my neighbor feeds strays, and since the flock leaves and I don't want her to eat alone. 5 days ago, I noticed she wasn't eating, and was limping badly. By the end of the day she wouldn't even stand up, but only lay down. We sat together till the sun went down, tho she never ate her dinner. The next day she missed breakfast, then lunch, and I was getting really worried. Then she showed up for dinner, but wouldn't eat, tho she did drink water. So again, we just sat. She wasn't limping hardly, but still didn't seem herself. She hasn't showed back up now for the last 3 days, and she won't come when I call her. All the other pigeons showed up just fine--even her mate. But no Spot. =( I don't know what to do! I keep looking for her and calling her, hoping against hope that she'll be back..I love all the pigeons, but she's my special one..we have a very special connection! I feel so lost without her =( Any advice?

Keep feeding and looking/calling out for her.
Maybe watch and follow her mate. It sounds like she was either sick or injured. If she does return can you get ahold of her? Getting her some treatment, meds or something might help. There could probably be a variety of different reasons why she hasn't shown up. Some people have lost pet pigeons or pigeons from their lofts, and don't see them for weeks or months. Some eventually show back up. I think we had one member on here that lost a bird and it returned 7 months later. I wouldn't give up just yet. -Hilly

I tried to catch her when I saw her limping so badly. She lets me get very close to her but she's not much for letting me catch her! I've been trying for months just because she's the one I always worry about and look for first thing in the morning, but tried especially hard when i saw she was hurt. I worked with the bird rescue center for 12 years, and am a licensed vet tech as well, and it kills me that she may be out there somewhere hurting =(. Thank you for your nice reply =) I will keep looking for her, I just hope she comes home! These last 3 days have felt like 3 years without her =(

Well, its now been one week since Spot has been missing. I've still been looking for her every day, but still haven't found her. I did find a sick pigeon though who couldn't fly, and had mucous in and around the beak. He was so weak, he fell asleep on me as I was checking him out still. I realised soon enough he was going to pass, so I made him a safe comfy spot in one of my cages with some water and food, but he passed within 2 hours. All of the other pigeons seem healthy still, and my house pigeon was not exposed. Makes me wonder though if Spot faced the same thing, although she did not seem sick in that way. I will continue to look for her, and if I ever do find her, I will not let her go again!! My heart aches not knowing what happened to her, if she was in pain or scared etc. Her baby who looks just like her is now a beautiful one year old, all white with just a few less spots on her chest. She is a constant reminder of Spot, and is very sweet, but makes me miss her even more. I wish I never let her out of my site, if I could go back just a week in time I would change so many things. I just wish my Spot would come home, be here in the morning to suprise me or something. I never knew you could miss a pigeon so much!!

i feel your pain
but remember if she was sick or injured and has passed on she no longer feels her pain, hope she does return to you but don't let it get ya down if she doesn't, keep feeding the flock and you will keep getting the satisfaction and serene rewards, ![]()
