Red face

Why moving birds before first cup of coffee is a bad idea.

So the babies and parents leftover in the tent were ready to move into the aviaries; the parents to the big one and the babies to the little one. I caught all the pigeons left in the tent, put them in their aviaries, and set about dismantling the tent, with a little help from my right-hand pooch.

I unzipped the big door, cut off the end of the tent, and set about raking and scooping shavings into the yard waste can. Finnegan was a big help, of course, running back and forth where he'd never been allowed and nosing through all the shavings to make sure there weren't any overlooked pigeon eggs to eat. I carted the big cage out, the metal shelving unit, the various milk crates and odds and ends that were in there. Then I went in and made some breakfast, came back out and took the last overturned plastic "house" out. Oops. A pigeon!!

I'd left a nesting mother hen (Nunnie, who's Lady Godiva's wife) in the tent!! I don't know who was more surprised right then, me or her. After I had my heart attack, I gently set the house back over her (that's the house in the picture above) but she came out and ran into the back part of the tent, which thankfully was still intact. I hurried to zip up the door, throw the dogs inside, and grab a dirty dog blanket off the patio to try to cover up the side I'd cut off. Then I grabbed my net (thank you so very much, Dollar Tree!!), said a prayer, and scooped. She jumped away, towards the flimsy blanket door! I headed her off, both of us in a panic, and scooped again. She slipped away at the last second. I took a deep breath, sneakily sidled towards her while whistling innocently, and brought the net down. Got her! Off she went into the aviary with Lady G and Finn and I continued cleaning the tent out. Moral of the story: don't move your birds around until you've had at least one cup of coffee!!

ROFL, MJ! I'm glad all ended up well! Finn is so CUTE but what a mess he made of himself with his "exploration" of the tent!

I learned that long time ago, I do nothing before I am fully awake after a big coffee with ice cream
Glad you got her. She must have thought you took everybody away and she was the lucky one to be overlooked thanks to her little house. Poor girl

Finn is adorable and a great little helper.

That was funny and I hear you on the coffee! Great that everything ended good.

Your right-hand pooch needs a treat after all that and an extra scoop of ice cream for you.

I was always envious of MJ's relationship with her birds, and now I have that! It's so awesome to be able to explore the nests and feed birds out of my hand. Too bad the tent had to be destroyed, that was a big one.
