Pigeons food advice, what to order or from where UK

I make my own pigeons mixture but now I am having problems finding all the ingredients I need in the shops. Can you believe that something as basic as wheat is no ware to find in pet food shops? Strange world we living in!

This place doesn’t help as there are so many mixtures, can somebody take a look and tell me what should I order?

Also any advice on a good UK webpage where to order from and what is much appreciated.

I don’t have any racing pigeons, just normal rescued pigeons that I have adopted and are unrealisable.

There used to be a link here about the percentage of various seeds in pigeons food that I used some time ago to make my pigeon food mixture but I do not find right now. Does anyone know those links?

I think I am going to buy wheat and barley that I can not find in the shop of the internet and do my own mixture of seeds again, is not like Tipsey( my spoiled monowing pigeon) is going to appreciate it he is going to go for the hempseeds and peanuts all the time anyway lol

Thanks for posting the link - I have just ordered some face masks from them!

The pigeon mix is all more expensive than what we buy, but their shipping costs are low, if they apply to the food as well as smaller items. It may be that the food costs quite a lot because they are allowing for the cost of sending heavy items like that.

Product ID: 5493 (economy mix - 25kg),
Product ID: 5494 (maintenance - 20kg) or
Product ID: 5490 (moulting mix - 25kg)

seem to be about the nearest to what we get.

We don't take much notice of whether it is designed for molting, for young birds, winter or anything like that - we just get what seems to have a good selection of ingredients, and see what our pigeons enjoy.

We also give them a conditioner like Product ID: 754 (Pigeon Conditioner 20kg), but that is really a luxury for them.

I looked at another company, where their 'economy mix' was just over £10, but the delivery cost would have been about £10 extra!

It is always going to be an expensive way to get pigeon food. If you can find any racing pigeon fanciers in your area, even in the county, then they may have a good supplier. Otherwise, if there is a proper animal feed store anywhere around (not a pet shop), you maybe able to get the wheat and some other things.

Hi John,

Thank you for the advice, I am going to go for these 2:

754 (Pigeon Conditioner 20kg)

Product ID: 5490 (moulting mix - 25kg)

mainly because of their high selection of ingredients. And at the end it seems to me that a pigeon will eat whatever he wants anyway, but the higher the selection the better in case the bird changes its mind.

The seeds bough of this website is cheaper then when I buy all the seeds separately and put them all together.

Hi Chriss

It might be worth just checking with them, maybe an email, that the shipping costs do apply to the pigeon mixes. At £4.99 when spending under £30 it is very reasonable for such a weight.

I check on their website with the postcode and that and it seems that I get the free postage over £30.I will bdouble checking tomorrow to make sure. I kind of expect it to arrive with one of those weird postal services because it sounds kind of cheap.

I just wanted to say that the pigeons seeds has arrived. The company has been great and informed me yesterday when they have sent it and today it was here today without any problem.
I got the free postage and packaging without any problem, for anyone that orders from there you have to check your destinations postcode to see if it applies to you.

The seeds from the pigeon conditioner mix smells so great, it must be the Aniseed Oil.

I have a total 40 kg of pigeon’s seeds now and all I can say to the birds at my local park and lake is “Here I come!” Is such a mixture of birds there that is something tasty in all this food mixture for everybody and is such difference from the usual bread that people tend to bring.
