Treatments for Splayed Leg(s)

I put these together for someone on another list but thought they might be helpful to some here too. At least some of these (Cynthia's and Devorah's for sure) have been posted here a number of times, but others may be new.

Terry,

This is great to have all the links on one thread.

Sounds like it would be a good sticky for the Resources section.

Terry Thank You for posting some of your work as pictures help out so much rather than someone trying to tell you how to do something. Awsome Terry you have out done yourself.

Good luck, Boni! Please do let us know how it goes! Given your talent for making bird things, I'll bet you come up with something truly wonderful.

Perfect advice

I have done this with pigeons and with chickens with good results. I used to tie them together with a soft piece of cloth and you have to be very careful not to tie too tightly around the legs. It does work.

This problem does not usually occur with natural incubation as moisture, temperature and turning of the eggs are better controlled in nature. Still, it can happen and at least it is not genetic and we can fix it.

It also doesn't happen if the chicks have something to grip in the nest instead of only having a slippery surface underneath them.
