Question

2 questions...

Hiya, noticed two things I wanted to ask you all about.

1) Misty starting making a different sound today, it kind of sounds like a "cluck" that a chicken would make. It's much deeper than the normal chirps I've been hearing. She doesn't make that sound a lot, just inbetween chirps occasionally and it only started earlier today. Any ideas what this is?

2) I took the sponge thingie off Mel's legs to see how they were doing. I noticed when he sat and walked, the left leg no longer splayed over to the side, but that his feet both pointed outwards, like duck feet. I looked at Misty's and both her feet are pointing straight and tucked under her when she sits. When Mel sits, you can see both feet plainly, sticking out at each side.

What I did was move the sponge down from the upper part of his leg, you know, above the joint part. The sponge being there kept his legs together, but did nothing for the feet. I moved the sponge "below" the joint/bend on the leg and his feet are now perfect! Thing is, the sponge was way awkward, it now touches the ground, so I cut it up as small as I could, so that it still worked to correct his feet.

My question is, can I keep this on him? He's able to sit now and not roll over and still waddle around a bit and when he does sit, his feet are in perfect position. I just didn't know if I could mess something up by leaving the sponge that low on his legs.

Thank you all, any and all advice is greatly appreciated, as always.

Izzy

Hi Izzy,

With Gonzo I taped the lower part of his leg, that drew the upper part in as well and repositioned the bits into the right places.

Cool! Thanks Cynthia, sounds like I'm on the right track with Mel then. I'll keep that sponge on until next week and hopefully, Mel won't be needing anymore special devices for awhile, lol!

Hey Izzy,

The "new" sounds Misty is making is normal as well. Squabs go through voice changes as the mature. Seems a little early for her to be going through this yet, but all pigeons are different. The squeaking and peeping will soon be replaced by half squeaks, and half coos. They will make a lot of different sounds when their voices are in the process of changing. I'm sorry I don't have any advice to give you about the splayed legs and feet because I've never dealt with these things. I hope it all works out for the best though and with the guidance from others here, I'm sure it will. You're most welcome for any small part I've played in helping you with the babies and whatever else. You're a smart gal with a lot of compassion and I think we all sensed that about you. And you're also right, once pigeons come into your life no matter how, you will see them everywhere from now on, in a much different light than before.
