4-h Pigeons

Hello everybody,
This is my first time posting here, I currently raise racing homers ( which I adore) . But I am looking for a fancy breed of pigeon that I could show for 4-h. I raise and show rabbits and last year at county fair I had to show a pigeon for master showman. I really had never thought about showing my pigeons but after that experience I really wanted to try it. So I guess my question is , is there a breed that would be good for 4-h pigeon showmanship, which includes lots of handing ( spreading of the wings and tail, flipping the birds over , ext.. ). I know in rabbits there are certain breeds that tend to be better at 4-h than others, of course theres always exceptions. Is there a pigeon breed that would be calm and easy to handle. After researching many breeds, I have become interested in ( among many others) Modenas, Nuns ( but cant find any good show stock for sale ) , Indian Fantails, and Tumblers. Any other breed suggestions welcomed! Thanks for listening and for any comments !

What breed do you like. I know someone with nuns indian fans. that would sold at a fare price. What state do you live in. This preson lives in kansas. Modenas are easy to raise. But I do not care for the size they have gone to. Standard calls for a 9 inch bird and many are now 12 13 inches. Bigger the some kings. Racers can show and fly. The morew you handle them the tamer they will be.

From where to where do you measure a bird? (Head to tail? Floor to top of head??).

Old German Owls are easy to work with and very pretty. They are one of the owl breeds with a long enough beak to raise young. Check out the different colors and varieties - http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ogoc/.

From bottom of feet to top of head for most. Most breeds have a standard.

You can view pigeons for sale at all pigeon shows and most county fairs. The National Young Bird Show in Louisville,Kentucky will be on October 23. There will be hundreds of pigeons for sale there. If you can get there you should be able to locate any breed.
I raise white-headed starlings.They are a flighty breed though.

Good Luck,Jeff
