A Beautiful site....I was merging on to the Gardiner Expressway from Don Valley Parkway this morning-Sept 29 around 8:30ish. I was about 100 Metre into the Gardiner and somewhere along Lakeshore area, I spotted about 15-20 white pigeons flying together heading east. Traffic was inching along for me to watch them nearly a minute until they were right above/behind me. I think it was some ceremony release or somebody training the birds.
It was really amazing and I thought -after 2 hours commuting (where it is only 35 min drive) after the chaos on 401- it is worth sharing about these all white kit in flight. Friends in the U.S and around the world, pardon me for confusing with the roads. I live in Toronto, Canada and 401, Gardiner and Don Valley are Highways/Freeways in Toronto area. Have a great night/day If anyone of you who visit here were training/releasing may be you can respond.

There is a company in the downtown area that does white releases -- could have been their birds. I think they're close enough to that area that they could even have just been loft flying?
As well, I know a guy fairly local to me -- his dad owns a vegetable farm, and I know he takes their birds training into Toronto regularly -- at that time in the morning, it sounds about right for them to be heading back home in an easterly direction - and isn't the St. Lawrence market in that general area too? I think he makes deliveries there in the early morning.A kit of pure whites is an awsome sight, isn't it? I never get tired of watching ours -- we've had people from the race club over, and even though they have their own "regular" (LOL) birds, they too are amazed at seeing 30-40 whites flying together. |

i dont do for ceremonys but the thrill people get when they see me release my friends for a trip home from a parking lot or wherever always brought an extra bounus its a great feeling when other people comment on the birds as they start there journey and so from this perspective although those particular birds werent mine i say thanks for sharing your delight ![]() |
