A Pigeon Nesting on top of an Air Condition

Hello Folks,

What would you with a pigeon nesting on an air condition inside a school? If you leave it alone, one of two things could happen. First, the eggs might roll down, fall and break. Second, the eggs would hatch, but the chicks would fall down and die, or if they don't die, the students would finish them up . These two scenarios happened the last two times.

One time, I actually brought a ladder from home and went up to the nest at 6:00 am before the students came in and checked on the eggs; they were warm, and the mother escaped momentarily but returned. I didn't touch anything and left, but a few days later, a student walked into my class with a dead chick in her hand. What do you think I should do?

Sooner or later someone is likely to complain about airborn dust from the droppings being cycled through the air conditioner. Suppose you could handle it in different ways, but however you handle the issue of the eggs/babies/nest
the area should probably be made inaccessible to the pigeons w/netting from
the top corners to the corrugated roof so that the parents will seek another
sheltered area for nesting.

For that matter I guess you could put netting up now that would wrap underneath the unit to protect against falls and then block it off w/netting
at the upper corners to roof when the babies have "flown the coop". Usually if folks realize one is keeping a close eye on the developement of the babies so that when fledged the area can be blocked off from further nesting attempts,
they are pacified.

Update

Hello,

It's been almost a month since I took the first picture. The eggs hatched and here's the result; a pair of very beautiful pigeons. They still haven't left the nest yet.

I'm glad the babies are doing well. Thanks for the update, Anton!
