Adopted Pigeons

I am unsure what to do here-
we just bought a new home and included was a pigeon house with pigeons! We've never cared for pigeons before-in fact my husband really doesn't want them. But up here it is really cold and I don't want them to starve or freeze to death. They have food, water and an enclosed house with an upper door to fly out of. They really don't bother me, but not sure if we can find other people to adopt them maybe-
Any suggestions!!??

How many do you have?

I will be willing to take some if you ship them...I live in Oregon.

Also I would like to know what kind they are so if you get a chance click on the Gallery link at the top of the web page and they have pictures of some breeds of pigeons.
(don't click on member pics in the gallery because those are random pictures and don't say the names of the breeds last time I checked)

I'm appalled that someone would just move out and leave their pigeons behind, but unfortunately it's not the first time I've heard of this happening. From your post I gather they left some food for them? They should also have clean water daily and pigeon grit available to them at all times. (Both are available at feed stores.) Domestic pigeons accustomed to being cared for by humans won't fare well if you stop feeding them, especially in the middle of winter. Also, they are not likely to leave because your place is the only home they know. Poor birds.

How many pigeons are there? Hopefully someone in your area will come be able to adopt them. Did you post on the adoption section of this forum? It would help if you could get some good pictures and post them so we can see what kind of pigeons they are.

Good news! I have found a local couple that are very familiar with pigeons and already have cages to transport them. Yeah!! They are eager to get them, but just unsure how to move the large shed they are currently housed in. Hopefully the pigeons will make a safe move-unsure about how the baby pigeon will do (found him yesterday in a nest) Hopefully all of them are warm enough since it is only 1 degree outside at night!! Thanks for all your help and suggestions!!

I'm hope you found someone who loves pigeons, and will give them a good home.

Does the baby have feathers, yet? It might be better to move them when the coldest weather is over, and when the baby is older. Can you wait that long?

Thank you for your care and concern over these pigeons.

Please keep us updated. Treesa
