ArtyModerators - please forgive me for starting a new thread on this subject, and I shall not be offended if you pull it - but I will have had my say and most of you are in the US and in bed by now anyway, and Cynthia should be at work and not allowed to play on the internet, (giggle) so it should get to stay up for a while. :-)
Arty - I do not understand your sense of reasoning. Your rage is unwarranted and out of control. And before you say I have no idea how you are feeling I am going to contradict you. A few years ago I had the very same problem - a feral cat found his way into my loft and my birds started disappearing. It took me a while before I realised a cat was getting into my loft. By then I had lost about 12 birds. Now I am not a pigeon racer with hundreds of birds and can afford to lose a few. My birds are descendents of patients I admitted, treated and kept. Every one is special to me. Once I saw the cat leave my loft with a bird in his jaws and realised what was going on I kept my pigeons locked up while I tried to solve the problem. They were locked up for 3 weeks and in all that time I never saw the cat. Finally deciding it had gone for good I opened my loft again. The very same day another bird went missing. I was furious! I went a few months like this - locking up my birds - then letting them out again hoping cat had gone. Eventually I caught the cat in my loft and shut the door, thus trapping it. Once I had the cat in a basket it was easy to examine the animal and plain to see this was a stray, many years old with sarcoptic mange, cauliflower ears and all other problems associated with living wild. I took the sensible decision of having the cat euthanased and Laura came round to do this. In total I lost more birds than I can remember right now, but my point is that my approach was the correct one. The difference between you and me is that my anger was healthy and directed towards the right subject - me, for not doing more to protect my birds. And the most important difference is that I did not harbour cruel thoughts and I did not let the cat suffer. Now you are welcome to investigate my membership details and send me hate mail if you wish - I shall just block your emails and won't see them anyway.
