baby pigeon 10 daysHi there,
Yesterday me and my life found baby pigeon around 10 days old on the ground. It was in the center of Brussels it was raining and if we didn't take him (or her) he whould die for sure. I have been giving him yesterday night and this morning small pieces of bread in milk with fingers. He is eating like a small dragon but it is a big fight untill he take the small pieces. Here come the first question. Should I use a syringe?Second. Today the shops are closedd here but when they are open what I can by for him- special food for baby pigeons, vitamines, something against parasites? Do I have to give him water to drink? I' ll be checking periodicaly the message board if something is emergancy necessary I can go to the center of Brussels to look for open pet shops. And last do you Know in Brussels or Belgium organisations which take care of pigeons. And really last - we have a dog in the apartment could it be dangerous for him the contact with pigeons? Thanks in advance |

Hello Reymon and welcome.
We have a good member in Belgium, I will e-mail her and ask her to advise you. Milk isn't good for pigeons. If you dip the bread in water that would be better for it. Keep it warm and dry for the time being. Are there any shops open at the moment? Can you get your hands on dried dog biscuits? Soaked in water they make a good temporary food. You have to open the pigeon's beak gently and push the food to the back of the mouth. Feed until the crop (at the front of the chest) is soft and cushiony. Keep the baby warm, if you have a hot water bottle fill it and wrap it in a twoel. If not, you can fills a sock with rice and heat it in the microwave. Just make certain that it is not too hot! RidicReymon brought me the little one this afternoon. He is very small and thin, but seems to be OK.
Ridic-that is the name given by Reymon and Ana to the litlle squab, Ridic is safe and being fed by his fosterparents, in my guestroom. I'll post pics on fprc. Myriam |

That is wonderful, Myriam. One of the most satisfying aspects of this forum is seeing members in the same area link to help a pigeon in need.
