baby pigeon found need advice

Hi all

I just joined this group. I run a bird rescue/santuary in RI and yesterday I was brought a baby pigeon. The bird was found and needs to be handfed,
the bird has the yellow down feathers on its head and body the reg feathers are coming in. the baby seems to be more active today and alert I have been feeding it baby bird formula with the syringe. Please tell me if I should be feeding it anything else. Also if anyone is near me in RI and is willing to take the baby in that would be great as I currently have over 30 birds in my rescue and I work during the week so hubby who is out of work right now is gonna help with feeding during the day But if i can find someone who is willing to take this little guy in It would help out alot.

Thanks
Lisa

Thanks Lisa--if it is healthy it should be ready to fledge between now and two weeks. if you could make sure it is able to eat wild bird seed with some dried peas mixed in, and you have seen it to be a good flyer with near adult weight, then you could release it where there is a good sized flock in a park where birds get some nutritional support from people--that's an ideal track if the bird has no problems other than a need for food. Of course a nice aviary/loft is better still so I hope you find one.

Feeding Baby Pigeons

Hi Lisa,

Feeding by syringe is a bit tedious for you and it! I will e-mail you details of how to let baby pigeons feed themselves! Check your e-mail!

Unfortunately I am in the UK, otherwise I would take him in.
