Bad news --

I guess miracles don't always happen. When we got home yesterday, I fed my pidgie with the broken leg, cleaned the cage and I made him drink some water. He seemed o.k.. I was all excited yesterday because he actually seemed to have some spunk and was standing up on one leg.

I went back to check on him an hour later, and his wings were spread out and he was gone.... I was so upset !!! I don't know what happened !! He seemed to be doing better! What went wrong???? Here I was planning to build him a bigger cage and everything, and now he's gone.

I am so sorry Pat. You did all the right things but he may have had an internal injury that you could not be aware of. They are so good at hiding these dreadful secrets. It is so much more upsetting when they die unexpectedly but this does occasionally happen.

Sadly the same thing happened to me with one of my rescues, Starlight. He seemed to be on the way to mending, I left him for an hour and when I came back he was in exactly the position that you describe. I was devastated. I had taken him to the vet and had tests done, so whatever it was that killed him the vet had not been able to see it either.

Been there too, seemed like one was getting better and then I came home after running an errand and it was dead. It was horrible. But now I got two more to take care of and they're helping me get over the loss. I just like to help.
Made me feel better knowing the bird knew I was helping and that it didn't have to die alone in the street or in the paws of a dog or a cat.
