beautiful white pigeon - can you help?

Snowey landed on our balcony 6 weeks ago. No band. Very tired. We fed him sesame seeds.
He is now our pet. Thought he was a Dove. but now know he is a pigeon. Very white. Very good condition. But we can't keep him. Owners of building are calling Pest Control to have him destroyed....

We leave on Sunday for U.K. for one month.
Can somebody please come and get him and look after him...or her?

Hello and welcome to pigeons.com. I will be happy to take Snowey and give him/her a home if you can arrange to get the bird to me. I am in South Orange County CA (Lake Forest). Where in L.A. are you located?

If the property owner is calling pest control to destroy the bird I assume the bird is outside. If that is the case, please get the bird inside where it is safe until arrangements can be made.

It sickens me that they would call pest control to destroy one lovely pigeon. Well, that they would try to destroy any pigeons, but it seems ludicrous when it's just one. Don't you have him in a cage? Can't they see that?

I'm sick of pigeons being considered a third class citizen in the bird world (by some ignorant, uneducated people, and by some veteranarians-who won't treat them..) It is unfair, it is discrimination and I'm going to write a "Bill of Rights" for pigeons.

That reminds me...my son came home from
school, yesterday, and said when he was working on a drawing of a pigeon for art class Friday, another student came by, and said "what do you want to draw a picture of a pigeon for, they are useless, flying rats, that poop." Before my son could respond, another young man in his class abruptly said " pigeons are not rats, they can be trained to fly home, and are smart and
don't you poop?" That shut the other kid up. My son just smiled and didn't have to say another word.

I think all the kids in science classes, during ornithology, should be given the history and life of the noble pigeon, used in war time for sending messages, racing machines, and about their intelligence, and how wonderful they are as pets....and how they DO control their "pooping" when they want to! I'm thinking of bringing my Skye in for show and tell.

It's time to re-educate the children, while they are in school, before they grow up as ingorant as some of them are now. Treesa

The video, "Oldest Feathered Friend", should be shown in every classroom.

The scene near the end, the child holding that beautiful white pigeon, with a slight smile on his face, and wonder in his eyes, as the two beings regard one another with admiration and respect, is my dearest wish for how things might be. It is at that point in the film, that we are reminded of how poorly these noble creatures have come to be regarded in our society; and with the rich history just provided by the feature, any thinking person asks, "Then, how can this be?"

Treesa nailed it--it's ignorance.

Lest we all forget, the original person who posted about this pigeon has not given us an update and per the post is now gone for a month. I e-mailed this person privately and asked for a personal update on the situation or an update to be posted on pigeons.com. Sadly neither happened so I have to assume the worst for this poor bird.

I have no problem in trying to help people with pigeons or any bird or animal in need, but I tend to get a bit pissy when the request for help is answered and then there is no further word on what's happening.

Terry,

I don't understand, why you don't get a response. when you make it so easy, and offer a home for that bird..

I always notice there are some topics, about injured pigeons, and those needing a home, that we answer and there is never an update. I pray for those birds...that is all we can do.

Oh, and yes, I have that Jedds catalog, it is gorgious!

I also, would love to get that movie "Pidge-the pigeon who worked a miracle"and the "Oldest Feathered Friend".

...and because pigeons partly have a negative image because of their "pooping skills", "Skye" my blue bar homer, would be happy to educate the youth about pigeons and show them he can control "the pooping" just like he did on the animal planet's "Pet Psychic" show. He never "pooped" once the whole two hours inside the studio!!!

Thumbs up

Is there any way that someone could come here and help me to get him into a box? He is a little nervous and I can't actually get close enough to touch him yet.

An actual cardboard box, or a cage? For a cage, put some seed in the cage, and close the door after he gets in. For a box, try the old trapping methood, of food under abox, so you pull a string, and the box ****s over the animal. then you slide something under the box, and gently tip it right side up and close it.

Or, if he's sleeping, when it's dark, get a beach towel, and carfully toss it over him, then scoop him up and put into cage or box.
