Big Guy Little Guy

A while ago I put an egg under a hen that was sitting on 2 eggs. I took one away. The egg that I put under the hen hatched 5 days before her own. Now the first hatched is a Big Guy and the later one looks like it isn't being fed. A couple of days after it hatched I found it on the floor of the loft. Is it possible that the hen has pushed it out of the nest? Will she feed the Little Guy now that I have removed the Big Guy for a while?

Hello,
I'm very new to pigeons and do not actually have an answer to your question, but I had a similar thing occur. I had two little ones hatch the same day; one quickly outpaced the other in size and viability. It got to the point that the larger was 4 times larger than the runt and was getting tromped on by the larger and the parents (I mean stepping on and standing on). He was also getting all or at least most of the food since he was so much "taller" than the other that the parents never stooped low enough to feed the smaller. I finally removed him at day 10 and began hand feeding him. He seemed to be doing OK...he gained weight(although he was very much behind his nestmate in size) and was eating voraciously. But he seemed to always have air or some kind of gas in his crop, even when it was emptly. Yesterday, at day 17 he refused to eat and passed away last night. Does anyone have any idea what might have occurred here? Is there a pigeon version of "fail to thrive"? Any help will be appreciated.

Hi Jerry,

Hello and welcome to Pigeons.com

Thank you for helping out. Taco Bill posted the very same topic twice. It WAS answered on Nov. 5th either on emergency care, or general questions. I went back to try to locate it, but can't find it.
