Book you should all read

I've been following all your pigeon stories for a while now, but not joining in as I had nothing much to say. I particularly love Hilary's continuing adventures with Hercules, and her question about pigeon behavior and their ability to recognize people and animals made me think the book "The Parrot Who Owns Me" by Joanna Burger would interest all of you. She is a very well-known ornithologist. Her main interest is in parrots, and this book is about her relationship with Tiko, a red-lored Amazon, but so much of what she writes about him, and his relationship with her, is mirrored in the relationships so many of you have with some of your pigeons. Hercules and this Tiko have the same protective behaviors, jealousies, cameraderie...

I've had many birds, pigeons and otherwise, and they do recognize people and other pets. I loved the book - you will too. Go pigeons! Peta

I bought this book as a present for my sister but didn't get round to reading it myself! I think I will have to borrow it back now!

Hello Peta,
Thanks for the recommendation. I will give it a go.
Yes, this is a truly entertaining site. I believe Hilary should have her own column in national newspapers. What a joy & delightful change that would be from the every day 'negative' news that is published.
Thanks again.
Cindy

Cindy,

What a good idea. I would read the paper every day if it had fun on-going real articles like that. I'm tired of reading the depressing stuff.
