Broken Eggs!!One of my pigeons layed an egg and the egg is cracked (a little) on one of the ends. The end that is cracked is the one with the spare space on it. The egg is cracked slightly but it didn't penatrate the sild/paper like substance. Is this egg still good? someone please advise.

Yes! Very likely it is good, as long as the membrane inside is intact--and even then, I've read that some have bled a little, and have been known to survive and be just fine!
You might try sealing the crack with a fine bead of acrylic super glue--just don't glue your pigeon or your fingers to the egg! A fine bead of Elmer's glue would work too; again, just let it dry. Return it to the nest as soon as you're sure the glue has dried, laying the egg on its side--never upright. For lack of anything else, I'd even try Scotch tape, trimmed thin, to just cover the crack. Be there to help out if the tape gets in the way at hatching. Small holes have been patched as well, using a piece of egg shell from another egg and a little Elmer's glue--or even egg white! Let us know how it goes. --Ray [This message has been edited by raynjudy (edited 03-14-2001).] |
