Hello and Welcome to pigeons.com!

With only one pigeon you can probably do with a good sized cage (3'x3'2'). The bird will need more horizontal room than vertical .. it has to be able to flap its wings without hitting the cage sides. Obviously, if you can give a bigger enclosure, it is very much the better ... I like the double high and double wide rabbit hutches .. they make great "cages" for a single or two pigeons. If you are handy, then just build it your self from 1/2 inch hardware cloth and 1 or 2 by 2's.

The best of all worlds is to have the bird be able to fly in a flight pen with a loft portion. If you are able to undertake something like this, then let us know.

Meanwhile, I have given kind of the minimum housing for one bird.

Again, welcome, and let us hear from you soon.

Hi!

In addition to Terry's suggestions, we've had excellent results with ferret cages available at pet supply outlets. They're large, cheap, and easily modified for pigeon use. They come folded flat and are quite sturdy when "deployed". Few tools required...

Let me know if take this route, and I'll explain the simple modifications to make.

Are there any other pets in the house--like cats?

Welcome to Pigeons.com!
