Cage Updated

Hi guys,

By viewing what they like and how far apart things need to be for wing and head space I have changed Turkey and Shuku's cage. They seem to enjoy it more now. When I first put them in it they hopped around and explored it. Lately turkey has been laying in the nest. Yesterday Shuku laid on his head.

I believe Turkey is trying to tell Shuku it's time to start nesting. Shuku is still too young, although they are mating now. I wonder how long it will be until I see an egg.

Today Turkey flew back into their cage for the first time. Then he did it two more times. It was obvious that he was trying to get Shuku to follow him. Finally she tried it for the first time and missed her landing spot and fell to the bottom of the cage. She hit one of the perches on the way down. Gulp! She is OK.

I believe Turkey is coaxing her in the cage to get her ready for nesting. More changes will be made for their cage, so entering will be easier for Shuku.

Hi Julie!
Glad to hear that Turkey and Shuku are enjoying their cage a little more!
My husband and I just finished building Noodle her very own cage, (which, of course, she hated the first couple of days because she wasn't with the doves). Now, one whole wall of our living room is taken up with bird cages
Do you just have perches in Turkey and Shuku's cage, or do they have a shelf as well? Noodle is now very attached to her shelf, and prefers to snooze on that instead of a perch. Also, I have added a piece of driftwood on the floor and a few pine boughs along the sides for her to pick at, (or just for some greenery). I'm trying not to crowd it too much though so she has a lot of room to do her weird "flap dance", (jumping up and down, flapping her wings, and turning 180 degrees, then jumping from side to side, then forwards and backwards...it's very funny, and she does it when she's excited).
Anyway, would it be possible for you to attach a small ramp to the cage opening for Turkey and Shuku to get in? Maybe something that you could just hook onto the bottom? Just a thought.

Wild Dove,

I never thought about drift wood. I like that idea, but I'd be concerned about bugs.

They have the whole bottom of the cage to walk around in and flap their wings. - OH MY! I was just trying to explain what my cage looked like and decided to deleted it. It's too detailed for me to explain. I am about to switch Internet servers, and when I do I'll have a new web page so I can put a picture of their cage there.

I didn't use any round perches. They have shelves. I just call them perches.

Although your idea of adding a landing board was excellent, soon I will cut a whole in the roof of their cage, and add a caged section on top. It will take up half of the roof. It will have a closeable door that will allow them to get in and out of the cage easier, when it's open. They can still land on the cage without being in the cage, and I won't have worry about taking their food out for them.

It will be a supreme cage. I'm excited. I love to hear you have one whole wall for the birds!

I heard something about Fing Chi or whatever the name is. It's that new thing that tells you how to set up your home to be more successful, happier, etc... Someone said when you walk in your front door, whatever is in the far left hand corner of your room is what your finances are. I guess mine are "For the birds!" LOL!

Today I was in and out of the house all day and could not take them out of their cage. They did nothing to show disapproval. When I finally got home I fell asleep. So here it is, late at night and this is the first time today they came out of their cage. I'm so glad they like their cage now! (I used to take them out for nearly the whole day)

Julie
