Call To Action - Minnesota Doves

Forwarding this from the WLREHAB list ..

Help Prevent the Slaughter of Doves in Minnesota!

Mourning doves have been protected in Minnesota since 1946, and
generations of Minnesotans have grown up enjoying these peaceful
backyard birds. But pro-hunting organizations and legislators have
introduced four bills—SF 697, SF 698, HF 529, and HF 530—that would open
a mourning dove hunting season for the first time in 57 years. If any
one of these bills passes, hunters will kill and injure millions of
doves for target practice in Minnesota!

· Dove hunting is inhumane. Scientific studies show that at least 20-30%
of doves shot by hunters are wounded and not retrieved.
· Doves are not overpopulated and do not cause nuisance problems. They
actually help farmers by eating weed seeds on the ground.
· Doves are too small to eat, and dove hunting amounts to no more than
mere target practice.
· There are already plenty of other game bird species that are legal to
hunt in Minnesota.

Please immediately contact your State Senator and State Representative
in St. Paul, and tell them to oppose any bill that would open a hunting
season on mourning doves. A one-minute phone call, letter, or postcard
can make a difference!
