Curled toes...This post is mostly for Brad, as he noticed Mel's toes were curled in one of the picts I had posted. Anyone else, please feel free to add comments if you wish.
Ok, I checked out Misty's while sitting, standing, walking, holding her up, etc...her toes are most definitely very straight. No probs there. Now Mel is a different story. I tried taking a pict while he was sitting down, but he kept his "right" foot under him and I couldn't get a clear shot. I did notice that all the toes on that foot were curled though. Now, the "left" leg, the one that is possibly splayed or something, that foot has all straight toes. I picked him, watched him, watched him shuffle around a bit and kept my eyes on the toes. The "right" foot kept the toes curled. As I picked him up, he would really straighten the toes on his left foot, but those toes are already straight. Here's the best picture I could come up with. Again, I am holding him, but the toes on his "right" foot (left side of picture) looks exactly like they do in this picture. Oh, the spongy thingie is what I'm using to try to keep his legs together. Splayed leg?I want some opinions on this sponge thingie I have on Mel. It's so very awkward, I mean, you can tell from the picts below that they kinda make him "lean" forward, onto his crop. It doesn't seem all that uncomfortable, he sleeps soundly and not nearly rolling over that much since I put him in a smaller space. He still seems to have his left leg sticking out a bit though and I'm wondering why?
The first sponge thing I made, I think maybe the holes I put in the sponge were just too far apart, so I made the holes closer together. I don't want them much closer, because I feel I'll be squishing his legs together and make him very uncomfortable. I guess I need to know if you think this will help him at all? He looks very top heavy in these picts because he just ate and also, I have the crop bra on him, which pushes his crop up higher than normal. Thanks for your input, Izzy |

Here's a shot of him from the left side, the side where he has the problem leg. He kept rolling over, so I just took a fast shot and put him into his box. He just seems to not be able to fold that leg up properly, like he does the right side. Even with this sponge on, you can see how his leg still sticks out a bit.
Poor little guy. ![]() |

broken leg???I'm not sure but that was what my bird's toes looked like when her leg was broken. I would feel the leg up and down and compare it to the "normal" leg. If you can't feel anything (if it's broken you will feel a bump) and is still worried you can take her to the vet for an x-ray.
Good luck Hilary Dawn
