I don't know if Cynthia will be back on-line again today .. Baytril is probably one of the most commonly used antibiotics though it really depends on what condition we are trying to treat.

If you have any types of medicines available, could you please list what they are for us?

Terry

For sure .. this bird flew into a window .. right? If that is the case then the swelling and runny nares are most likely due to trauma rather than illness. The bird needs to be seen by an avian vet to be sure what is wrong. If all the problems are because of flying into a window then it probably needs to be on an anti-inflammatory type of drug to reduce the swelling. Antibiotics won't do anything to help if trauma is the problem.

If the owner of the bird is going to pick it up and care for it, this needs to be done right away .. not in a day or two or three.

Terry

Hello,

Terry is right about this pigeon probably not needing Baytril but if you e-mail me your address I can send you a small supply to have to hand when you need some urgently.

I think you need to get the bird to the rehabber as quickly as you can. Please keep us posted as to what is going on.

Better not feed it. Let it have access to water but follow the procedure for dealing with sour crop. I will bump up a post.

No, don't overfeed it!!!! That will make things worse for it. Just leave it with access to water. It won't starve overnight and I gather you will take it to the rehabber tomorrow?

You did very well getting it to a rehabber.

See if you can fidn out what was wrong with it, what medication it was given and what the outcome was, so that you can help others with that knowledge.
