deformity in baby pigeonI have a baby pigeon that has the beginnings of being able to eat on his own, but I feel I still need feed him-usually I let the parents handle it, but this one didn't come from my yard, and the flock that hangs around here won't feed him(he's "tried" all of them). The problem is that his center breastbone protrudes way out. Is this characteristic of any particular disease? It's something I've seen before, but not this drastic. I'm wondering if it will adversely affect my trying to feed him (I've not had much luck in the past in accomplishing feeding a baby, and I've always been fortunate to have the parents around to do it.) Thanks for any help. Dee

Hello,
I have never read of that as a deformity, but could it just be that it is so emaciated that all the plumpness has gone from the breastbone so that the whole bone is visible? Cynthia

Hi Dee,
Many thanks for taking the time to care for this little one. Although there certainly could be a deformity in the baby's breast bone, I'm inclined to agree with Cynthia in that he is probably starving. Any assistance you can offer him would be wonderful. Please keep us updated. Cindy ![]()
