Development of Pecking...Found this great study online about the development of pecking in ringneck doves/pigeons. Not sure if all of you have read this previously or not, but it was quite interesting, included video clips, and helped me understand why it's not so easy for a squab to learn to just pick up seed that's in front of them.
I've been trying this with Misty and she just kinda buries her beak and face into some seeds, but doesn't seem to get that she can open her mouth and eat, lol! I know this will take time, but I didn't know why it wasn't more natural to her. Anyhow, this study is very informative and I thought I would post the link in case anyone might be interested in reading it. Izzy ![]() Development of Pecking

You're very welcome Mary and Terri!
I found it quite fascinating myself, but wasn't sure if someone has posted that link on that board before my arrival. I just love learning all I can about Mel and Misty. Izzy

Really? I made a major find? Wow, I'm flattered, lol!
Of course I don't mind! Please feel free to post that link where ever you want too, if this resource can help educate others, that's just awesome! Izzy ![]()

Indeed excellent stuff! Looking at the table of contents link - heck, there is so much about 'what makes pigeons tick'!
