There is no difference in a "racing" pigeon and a "homing" pigeon. ALL racers are homers, but not all homers are racers. I believe I posted this same thing a few days ago. What I mean is, a so called race bird has the homing ability. They all do, but to get a "homing pigeon" to bust his butt to get home FAST, therefore becoming a "racer" is something that we as fanciers must do. They will all come home because that is what they are bred to do, but we must motivate them and turn them into a "racer" that wants to get home as fast a possible.

race birdLee here,
Racing homers are highly motivated birds meaning they get special training and consideration in a racing loft and i agree with Lovebirds. Keep in mind that the racing birds is bred for special physical features. The racing bird has a bigger heart it is they same principal as the racing horse ... That dosent mean that the normal homer cant win a race it just means that the racing bird is bred with racing in mind . A thicker breast makes for a better lift in the air also more muscle on the down stroke of the wings , Maybe a longer wing to catch more wind , a larger head for a bigger brain and so on . The heart of the racing pigeon is half again as big as a normal homer . Unless you want to have a loft of racing homers then it dosent make any difference and they WILL interbreed but you wont notice the difference ... just my oppinions |
