Dumb question....sorryHi All,
I received a Fantail pigeon into the rehab centre last night, (gorgeous!). My stupid question of the day is...How well can Fantails fly? I cannot find one single thing wrong with him, but he does not fly more than about 10 feet at a time. Is this normal? Second question...he is not banded, so may be up for adoption if an owner does not step forward...could a feral pigeon, (Noodle) and a fantail be housed together? Are fantails relatively friendly? Any information would be appreciated? Thank you! Wild Dove |

The flying thing is natural, fantails aren't a very flighty breed. And, yes, it could be housed with a feral pigeon or any other pigeon for that matter. And they will breed if they are opposite genders. As for temperment its just like any other pigeon, they are all unique. Some may be aggressive, while some may be really passive. Hope this helps.
No question is a stupid question, Nick |

Hi Wild Dove,
Ditto on what Nick said. I have a rescued fantail (FanFan). While I still don't know for sure what sex s/he is, I think male. FanFan is very gentle and docile around people and other pigeons. His or her significant other is a little red homing pigeon. FanFan does not fly well either. FanFan is predominantly white with alternating sections of the fantail being black. Now that he is all cleaned up and the tail has grown back, he is quite a lovely looking bird. Hope you are able to adopt the one at your center .. I think you would greatly enjoy the bird. Thank you Nick & Terry! I appreciate the information very much, and am glad I didn't miss anything that might have been wrong!
Fanfan is just adorable! This one is tan with emerald green on the neck and a couple of white wing and tail feathers...very pretty! Your other piddys are lovely as well! We'll have to see about the adoption...there still may be someone out there looking for their birdy, (he was found on a road and picked up by a very kind couple), but since we are building Noodle an extra big cage...maybe she would enjoy the company .Thank you again! I bet Noodle would enjoy the company. I hope it works out.
I love the pictures of Fanfan and the others. Julie |
