eggs and incubation

Me again, does anyone know how long a breeding pair can be off their eggs at one time without it harming the developing embrios?

I know for parrots it can be 5 day but I don't know if it is the same with pigeons.

Thanks again CJ. The reason I'm asking about it is for cleaning of their pen. And the only way I can clean is if they are both out of their pen and it takes me from 5-10 minutes to change the paper and stuff.

Brad, the time of the eggs is relational to the temperature of the environment. My birds may be off the nest just long enough to eat and drink when the temperature is near freezing, but the same pair may go out for a 30 minute fly when the temperature is 60 or better. Naturally, the closer to hatching time, the more critical this is. Good luck.

As Navigator said, it depends on the weather. For 5-10 minutes, while your cleaning, there should be no problem. I really doubt you'll be doing much cleaning at 50 below....

Someone we know had sent a pair of birds to a long race. They were on eggs, which he didn't want to hatch anyway. He forgot to remove the eggs. The birds were gone for 3 days (from shipping, to release, to home). The eggs still hatched. LOL

Thanks Whitewings and navigator...that is great information to know. My birds are kept indoors as well in a temperature between 60 and 65 degrees. I guess I'll be ok to shew the birds out for a 10 minute cleaning of their pen then. Thanks!
