hi everybody, just wondering what is everybody's favorite breed, and what attracted you to fly such a breed.

Started with birmingham rollers, and bred them for many years. Recently, however, the hawks took them faster than I could breed them, and have stopped raising them.

I always had a soft spot for indian fantails, so have purchased a group of them, trying to start a breeding program (with limited success, so far). I'd have to vote for fantails as favorite breed.

I absolutely love my ferals! I don't fly them because they're house pets.

They're just so wonderful!

All in all, My favorite pigeon, isn't exactly the most gorgoius, but is the fastest. I have to say it is the homing (racing) pigeon. They have the uncanny ability to fly great distances with such agility, cleverness, and Speed!!

That is my all time favorite, the "lean mean racing machine", what can I say, it's in my blood!

I really love my Birmingham rollers because of their pretty colors and nice personalities. But I've become very fond of my American fantails, too, so I'd have to say it's a toss-up. The little fans are so sweet and docile, and I don't have to feel guilty for not flying them. We also had to stop flying our rollers because of hawks.

I hear you Treesa and don't really disagree, however...though ferals don't have the muscle reserves to keep up 45MPH for hours, they have a close knit physicality that gives them clearly superior agility--superb moves, and they would win a short sprint or on an obsticle course. When I took my king pigeon Snow Bird (wearing jesses) up to the mountains of Berkeley today it was cold and very windy. We had vultures zooming by 20 feet off the deck, we had redtails hovering in place directly overhead, and a bunch of falcons and Cooper's. But each day like this there will be one, two, up to six ferals that are different than most of the few thousand in the East Bay, and up the mountain they come (1800 feet from sea level). They get up to the top and then get into a semi tuck and hammer there way back home, darting and dancing just for the hell of it; they fear no bird. Homer's are magnificent especially when you consider how far they can go between sun up and sun down to get home, but for pure flying, not just time and distance performance, a good feral is superb. And if you take a feral mourning dove, well, they can sit on a telephone wire and explode 300 feet before any pigeon could get to 280 feet. I don't know if doves have the staying power (doubt it) but they can easily run a homer speed and take rest beats. I debate the point for fun as you know, and because the there is a lot of elitist sentiment in the racing community. I had a prominent member of the Hayward Homer Club say a homer was Seabiscuit and all ferals were burros. Well, they are all quite splendid from my eye view, and from your view I'm sure.
