Found a pigeon and don't know what to do!I found your site while doing an internet search on pigeons. I seem to have been adopted by such a sweet bird! He/she has a band on one foot that reads: NBRC 2001 E1935. I have no idea what it means! Is it from a breeder? Someone's pet? Part of a study? It acts very VERY tame. I think it is sort of lame...or it may be dizzy. It is happiest when being held and talked to (as I type this with my right hand...I am holding it with my left hand against my chest!) I have been reading the posts here...and am a bit worried that it may have something contageous? I have a parrot, 2 Love Birds, a Cockatiel and a parakeet. (This pigeon found himself a birdlover!) I live in Connecticut...don't know how to find a bird rescue organization. Don't know what to do to help the bird. I have a nice large cage for it...my kids built it a nest with water nearby and seeds. I really would like to help the bird get better. I don't see any discharge from eyes or nose...he isn't eating or drinking...just wants to be held. When he walks/hops, he seems to favor the right leg and won't go very far without falling down. I would love to hear from someone with any kind of advice! Thanks

Thank you so much for your help! I went to the NBRC site you gave me and chatted in a chatroom with several "Roller" owners that gave me the information that I needed. I was up with the bird til 3am trying to help him. I used a syringe with a small tube on the end (my husband is a doctor and had one) to get some water into the ailing bird. He was all puffed out and seemed cold so I held him with a cloth over him to keep him warm. Unfortunately, he didn't make it. Yet, he died in a warm and caring place instead of outside in the rain. I learned so much about pigeons thru him that I now have even more love for the breed! Thanks again for the rapid response...you did make it possible for me to do all that was possible to try to save the bird.

Dear Annemarie,
Thank you for taking the little pijjie in, so sorry to hear he didn't make it. You gave him love and warmth, which may have been all he needed at this point in time...thankyou for your loving presence in his last hours of life. Treesa
