Found baby pigeon egg

My brother found a baby pigeon egg on our roof and doesn't want to keep it. So after I took it, I've kept it in a box with a heating pad to keep it warm. Once it hatches, how do I take care of it? I would like to know what to feed a baby bird once it hatches. Please help me know how to do this. Thankyou.

Hi

You will need some baby bird formula from a petstore...and a syringe(without the needle) or a clean eyedropper..
make sure you have these things on hand befor the baby hatches..

Check out the resources page at the top right corner for more helpful info

Good Luck and keep us posted!

Mary

P.S did you check the egg infront of a light bulb to see if there are veins or if there is something inside??

I don't know but I think that a heating pad would be too hot. Can someone reply to what temperature the egg should be kept at?

99 degrees f.
But it is impossible to incubate an egg on a heat pad. It means that one half of the egg is warmer than the other half. And what about humidity? If you don't get that exactly right you have a dead bird on your hands. An embryo can cope with a degree or 2 either way during incubation, although it doesn't do it much good, but humidity is a different matter. Too little and the chick will not grow properly and dry out, then die inside the egg. Too much and the chick will grow too big for the egg but not yet be ready to hatch, so pressure and fluid build up in the neck and the chick suffocates before it hatches.
A foster mother is the only reliable way, and an incubator second best.
As for feeding when the chick hatches. That's a whole new ball game. If you can find someone to show you how to tube feed you may stand a chance. Do you know any pigeon fanciers who may be able to give you advice?
