Giving Bacon her medicine, and I think she had a pre-mature egg last night!!!

Hi all. Well I need some advice on how to give the medicine to her. It is so hard with birds!!! I work with horses and I give shots and medicine every day and it is nothing like giving a bird medicine!!! How can I give it to her properly?? And I woke up this morning and there was egg yolk and white in her cage. There was no shell but like a sack holding it together. Can anyone explain why this would happen??? Thanks all!!!

Not sure about the egg, not having seen anything like that before. But the meds are a different matter. Are they liquid and are you using a 1ml syringe?
The easiest way to give birds liquid medicine is to wrap the bird in a small towel, sit on a chair and hold the bundle between your knees - head facing upwards! :-)
If you are right handed grip the bird's neck just below the skull between the little and fourth finger and pull neck upwards so it is straight. Use right hand to open beak and the switch to the thumb and forefinger of left hand to hold beak open, still gripping neck with little and fourth finger.
Use right hand to administer dose with syringe, making sure it misses the airway to the lungs.
Hope this helps.

it is a softshelled egg, does she get oyster shell? It normally is caused by lack of calcium in poultry (chickens)

Yes she does get oyster shells and a high cal grit, but this egg was really early for her. She just got off of her last two eggs 5 days ago. So I wondered if something triggered it in her.

I had chickins (sp?) once and there first egg was almoast always like that. It also could be a clue in finding out what she is sick with (if you don't aready know).

Oops, I didn't factor in the med's..... perhaps it's due to the medication. Can you call the vet and ask if it's a side effect??
