Do you mean fertile or infertile?
Carefully remove egg from nest, and bring into a dark room. Cup your hand around the egg so you can peak in and look at part of it. Shine a flashlight on the back part of the egg where egg is exposed, and peak in. You might want to have someone help you the first time, as you wouldn't want to drop it! At about 5 days of brooding, you should be able to see a dark spot, (embryo) and blood vessels. Infertile eggs will be clear. Treesa

Hello,
You can also do this in full day light, 2 years ago I had many ferals on my balcony nesting, I would go out there and hold up the egg to the sun and I could see veins at about 5 days. If the egg won't hatch then it usually looks dull and grey inside or clear but nothing develops inside. Mary
