Luke:

Check your email...

You've given us very little to work with. I will post this message elsewhere for you.

Start with fresh, cool water. Can the bird drink? If not, try offering water with a clean eye dropper or with your finger over the end of a small straw. Seek a wildlife shelter ASAP!

If this is a baby passerine, ie., robin or sparrow, you're in way over your head.

Scope out the area where you found the critter. Are there predators? Was there any trace of a nest? Did the home owner or workmen knock the nest down?

Try taking the bird back and waiting to see if the parents are about.

You've got to be cool and calm, as many of these birds will go into shock and die from fright alone.

I still think your best bet is a wildlife shelter.

Hi Luke,

Thank you so much to you and your brother for trying to help this little bird. When you find a little wild one such as this, there are several things you should try to do:

1) If there is a nest, try to put the baby back into the nest so the parents can care for it.

2) If it is a fledgling bird (just trying to learn to fly) and is not injured nor in danger from anything, just keep an eye on it. The parents will look after it and do a far better job than you or I can do.

3) If step one or two is not possible, put the baby in a small box or container with a clean, dry towel or piece of t-shirt on the bottom and keep it in a very warm and quiet spot. Do NOT try to feed or water it especially if you do not know what kind of bird it is. You may know how to care for infant pigeons and doves but most little birds that are found are passerines, and most of them are insectivores and require a completely different diet than pigeons and doves.

4) Find your closest wildlife rehabilitator and take the little bird to that person ASAP (that means as soon as possible and even faster if you can).

Thank you again, Luke and your brother for trying to help!

it did not have a nest and it was all skinny and dihatreted b/c when i gave it some water it kept begging for more then a few minutes before it died it was spiting up like green water the place we found it in is like a souna and i think it might have flew in a window trying to get out. this is not the first time this has happened the last time is was not hurt or anything just got stuck in there. i had to wear gloves to hold it it was little black and had a long sharp beak it was flying into windows when i first got i did not have gloves on and it stabed me that was really deep and it hurt i almost killed it but then i rembered it was doing what came naturl it was just trying to protect it self so i brought it outside let it go and it hoped out stood on the road look at me like he was saying thanks and felw away and never saw it again. but any way does any one here own any runts?
