Helping eggs and baby pigeons.

My family is supposed to get a house this winter or late fall and I was thinking about people who don't like pigeons especially when they lay eggs, they pay people to get
rid of the nest. What I want to do is try to get the eggs/baby pigeons and take care of them so the people don't hurt/kill them. Any websites or books that teach you how to care for them? Any tips? I still have quite a long time before winter(it might be even longer if we can't find a good enough house) so that gives me some time to plan. Also I wanted to know if there is a way to make the parents come along or to make it so they don't get sad. I have so many questions that it would be way to long (not to mention boring) to list them all. Any and all help would be appreciated.

Hi!

Thanks for wanting to help! It is extremely difficult to raise pigeon hatchlings and the losses are staggering.

There has been good success with baby pigeons
being tube fed after, say five days, on mom & dad's "pigeon milk". The food provided by mom & dad contains antibodies and enzymes, along with perfect nutrition.

Baby pigeons double their weight in the first 48-hours on "pigeon milk" and currently, there is no way to replicate the stuff.

If at all possible, leave the babies with the parents those first critical days. You can get detailed information on tube feeding baby pigeons right here, at Pigeon Talk.

Did we not send you general information on this? If not, email me and I'd be happy to do so.

You may also ask Carl or Terri for their stories on raising a little squabbie to healthy, beautiful pigeon.
