Hi Clarissa,

I don't think it is a very good idea to try to hand raise a squab for Squeekers. You would be better to establish his/her sex first and then get a young adult of the opposite sex.

Hi CJ,

First of all, if the "squab" has parents, let them raise it as long as they will. A Squab is a very young baby pigeon. It is a lot of work that the parents can do for you, and it should be with its parents until it is 6 weeks old, unless this is an emergency. By emergency, I mean if it has lost its parents.

Second of all, if there are no parents or adoptive pigeon parents, we need to know how old the "squab" is, to determine what to feed it as they change their diets as they grow.

Check the pictures of "Sara" on her story on the first page of the website and let us know how old the "squab" is.

Then we can help you, okay?

As far as the duck goes, I know not much about ducks. But we have a moderator who does.

Hi Clarissa .. what type of duck are you thinking of getting and what age? While I truly love ducks, they are not for everyone. Depending upon the breed and sex, they can be quite loud and regardless of the breed or sex will eventually be a bit messy. You need to be very certain that you, your parents, and neighbors are going to be up to dealing with duck related things.

I am going to get a pigeon from a local pigeon breeder. I dont know at what age he sels them. Or we might get a pigeon how we got squeekers, a baby pigeon that had fallen out of its nest.
About the duck we arent sure about it. My sis wants to get 3 ducks but they wouldn't last long in our area. All i want is a nother pigeon.

Hi Clarissa .. then let's make it simple .. no ducks at your household .. they are infinitely more difficult to deal with than pigeons. Also, please be thinking very carefully about this new pigeon .. you will be his or her lifeline .. don't let it down.

Hey Clarissa!

It is sooooo good to hear you and Squeekers are doing okay! Especially after all the worries and trouble you went through!

While I think it would be nice for Squeekers to have a friend, I think you have to think long and hard about making that decision....The more pets you have, the more chance you have for sickness and injury. You got very very lucky with Squeekers, THIS TIME. I think it would be very irresponsible for you to take on more pets at this time if your parents will continue to refuse taking them to a vet if there is a problem. Sweetie, please use your head on this.

Anyway, enough of my unwanted (I am sure) advice.

I am so very glad that Squeekers is okay and best wishes to you, honey.

some think pigeons are messy (droppings). well ducks are far worse. i have 2 to 3 that visit my back yard. i don't mind the backyard but sometimes they like to hang out on the back patio till i get home and theres duck dropping the size of golf balls. i would definately rethink the ducks as pets. theres responsibilities with pigeons but i think ducks might be a a little too much. thats just my opinion.

Hey everyone,

Yes, ducks and geese poop like a dog or cat...It is fairly large and solid, so it is easier to pick up and clean, but if you are not into birds pooping like dogs or cats and having to clean up after them, you had better think twice.
