i am scared

i have just recently found out that i can't take lucky sparkles back to california with me.i have 7 pets up there already.i had decided to let lucky sparkles live with his family here at the apts were i found him as a baby. when i walked him around i had found something very disturbing. there has a big very beautiful pigeon in the grass. he was dieing. then he spit up a large amount of corn and then fell over. i looked at the top of the apts and the pigeons were up there eatin corn that the maintanance crew for the apts put up there. on the way back to my apt. i ran across 3 more pigeons in the grass. some boys at the bus stop said they have been finding dead ones all over the neighbor hood. i began to cry and i don't know what to do. i think the apartment maniger is poisoning the pigeons around here. i don't know what to do. but for my lucky sparkles i need to find him a home he is not goin to be back out were he came from. please help me i don't know what i should do. i am in oklahom city and in california this is not legal.

I'm so sorry to hear about this, and it does sounds like your manager is poisoning the pigeons..

For now it's probably best to make a post up in the adoption forum about Lucky Sparkles or see if a member from your area is willing to help you take him in or adopt him.

Hope some members will be along shortly to give some ideas and suggestions on what to do with the poison or if this can be stopped ..

i have found a place for lucky sparkles already. my friend juan has 5 doves and 7 pigeons. he said he would take him/her for me so i could still be there. juan will pay for his way to cali for me. my friend juan said to try and save some of them and also brign them to him so i think that is what i could do. i wish that the manager would find a nother way cause when i seen that i cried. well i apreciate all the help i can get.

Am glad you were able to place Lucky Sparkles....if I were you, I would call your town. borough, or city hall and ask if what this apt mgr is doing is legal in your city. If it is, it is a shame. But if it is not legal, you should report him immediately. Depending on how much nerve you have, even if it is legal, you could shoot some video or take some pictures of the dying pigeons and alert the media, (newpapers, local tv news, etc.) They just might be interested and even if it is legal, if enough people actually can see the suffering and death throes of these poor birds, there may be enough who will protest to put a stop to it. It is at least worth a shot. You have nothing to lose, especially since you will be leaving for California soon.

almost all the residence here hate the pigeons being around. i have found the number and adress to the local animal control and when they are open i am goin to call and find out if it is legal and if i could do anything about it. when my cousin gets home i am goin to ask him if i could barrow his digital camera so i could get pictures of it. just thinking about what i seen makes my stomach upset. befor i leave here i am goin to try and do all i can to get the manager to find a nother way. i was thinking of gettin a hold of a rescue group around here and try to trap what is left of the pigeons. i think i have noticed that they feed the corn to the pigeons every 2 weeks. i didn't know what was goin on at first. i think i have noticed that those who did not eat much and spits it all up are dizzy for a while but then they fly away. this experience has made me hate it here. thank u all for ur advice and support.
it makes me mad how people could do this to such beautiful birds.

I'm so sorry to hear this. I too recommend you contact official agencies...but I add your local news papers/media, it's amazing how the medias attention can change things if someone is doing something wrong or at least something they don't want others to know about (just imagine those children on the front page).
If the manager is not killing the pigeons then it could be something as bad as west nile virus or foul pox; your health department should be able to tell you if west nile has been found in your area. If it is the manager then your State Wildlife (Fish & Wildlife) Department may be interested in checking this out because of the hazard he may be creating to other creatures. If he is poisoning then he may also be threatening hawks or mammals that may be naturally feeding on pigeons (live or dead), or even some that might be taking advantage of the pigeons feeding source.

I'm also thinking that any near Pigeon Racing Group would be interested in this situation as it may effect them greatly. If you know of any then you might contact them.

Could you take her with you to California and release her there? Or transport her to Terry or Cindy for release into one of the flocks that they support?

so far i have found out that around her they are considered pests like rats and bugs so they consider it to be lke pest control. sence it is an apt complex and nothing else is around i am the only complainer every one else thinks it's good. lucky sparkles is goin to california with me and will live happily with 17 other pigeons. my friend got in contact with a lady i will meet with and she will tag him and she does really good with her birds. she has some pigeons that do tricks. even those that do flips in the sky. i think he has a promising future there. i am also goin to try as much as i can to save other pigeons around here and takin them there to be safe and in a healthy flock. she even told me she would have him checked up and taged. as much as i can see there are 8 pigeons left in the apartments.

I am very sorry to hear this! It is disgusting! Reti from Florida has gone through the same thing and managed to catch many birds and mail them to safety. I got three . And they were released and are doing well.

If I where you I'd go to a local Fish and Game and tell them that your apartment managers are poisioning the pigeons and native birds are being poisoned as well. Yes, it is lying. But you want to save the pigeons right?

well i am very srry about all the pigeons i wish i could take him but i can't i already have 150 and my grandpa said no more unless he gets one i live in texas i am in dallas maby u sjould go to the police station and tell them that he is doing this cauze if u don't then many many others will be dead and we all don't want that i will ask my friend if she wants luck sparkles she lives next door to me and she loves birds she has 2 zebra finches and is about to get blue capas how mush would u say u would wat her for well if u reply say hi fan94

lucky sparkels and i are goin to california on thurs. sept 16. my friend juan knows a lady with pigeons and they are all in the best care and everything. i have already talked to the city animal control and they consider them pests like other places do to rats and bugs. the complex here are 3 stories and so far that i have seen what was left of the pigeons took off. even the animal control around here do not like the pigeons. they have moved now though cause last i seen there were about 16-19 left that i could count. i seen the pigeons flying past and over the complex but they are no longer landing on the complex. it will be hard to stirr up something that i won't be here for. and i do love pigeons cause they are so pasionate and loving but i am not goin to lie to anyone about anything. i wouldn't even know what to do or expect. i am sorry.

i am going to still visit the site and keep everyone posted on how lucky sparkels is doing. so far i have cought 3 more pigeons and they are goin to california with me this thursday. there is a lady in my town that take in pigeons and doves. lucky sparkels is a well trained pigeon. he comes to his name. he will make little noises when he snuggles up close to ur head. he is learning more tricks and recently figured how to do a flip in the air. i have 7 pets at my house in cali already and i have been told i can't keep him. i am still goin to see him all the time i already have that set up. he is an indoor pigeon too. he is potty trained. he only goes in his cage or on his little gym play place i bought for him.the lady who is goin to take him in said she will tag him and make a folder on him and everything.i have spent the last month spending everyday all day with him and he is so used to me it will be hard on hte both of us. the 3 pigeons that i cought are very healthy and one of them i think is a male is so dark. he is all black and he has the shiny colors around his neck. he is the biggest pigeon i ever seen. the other 2 are regular beautiful pigeons and are also healthy. they have been de-buged and eat well. the other pigeons that were around left and are no longer around. i can't wait to introduce them to cindys flock. she is the lady who will be taking them. i now am goin to be volunteering for her to help out with the pigeons in trade of letting me be there for lucky sparkels and bringing oter strays to her lofts. i told her about this site and she will be gettin in touch with this site on the 23rd of this month. i wish i was better help to the pigeons around here ut i am doin my best that i can under the conditions i am in. i will keep in touch and thank u all for being here for me.
