Hello and welcome to pigeons.com

The eggs should be okay, but watch the chicks once they hatch. The parents will tend to leave them alone at night once they are a few days old regardless of the weather and they can die of hypothermia. If this happens you can take the chicks indoors at night, then put them back in the nest during the day (assuming it isn't too cold). That way the parents should continue to feed and care for them.

Hello and Welcome to Pigeons.com

Thank you for your interest and concern of these pigeons.

If the pigeons are sitting on the eggs, they will definitely hatch, if they are fertile.

It is after the babies hatch that concerns me. Pigeons will lay eggs all year round, no matter what the weather is like.

Is the nest protected from wind and rain? Have you provided the birds with bird seed and water?

Treesa

Thank you for your concern

As long as they are sheltered well from wind, rain, you need do nothing now.

You want to let nature take its course and keep very limited contact with them.

When and if the parents are not sitting on them, and its cold, you should bring them inside at night and return them to the nest in the morning.

You should use a towel, or other non-slip surface in a nice size round bowl, that both babies will be comfy in. They should lay right next to each other, so that their little feet stay nicely tucked under them.

Keep them (in the bowl) in a small box in warm room without any air drafts.

I have two pigeons I had to keep indoors.I used a small bowl, like a feeding dish, that fit their size, and had to be adjusted as they grew.! I put them inside their bowl in a deep round basket, that kept them free of any air drafts. I put a very light weight wool (tiny) blanket on top to keep them warm.

Where in Canada? I'm in Ontario

As already mentioned, if the birds are in a covered area, and draft free, they'll be fine.

We've 28 babies in the loft right now. No heat in the loft, either. Our aviaries are open 24/7/365 -- and the birds love it! They're even out in them during snow falls sometimes - 'snow showering'!

Hello,

I'm in Ontario, I see you live in Ottawa.

It's quite cold here, I have a 5 day old baby on my balcony, 2 pigeon couples made a nest but the other 2 eggs didn't seem to hatch (Usually if it's the first clutch in the season or the first clutch by a younger female it won't hatch)

Even this older clutch with the baby didn't manage to hatch the other egg so they only have one baby, He is very cute and growing very fast.

I agree, it's just so wonderful to watch the birds!

Hi Mary,

I'm happy to hear your 5 day old balcony baby is doing well. At least he is getting mom and dads full attention and food, so he should make it, being one of the first to be born this time of year.
