How do you distinguish between lice and termites on pigeons?
Hello there, I don't believe you will find 'termites' on pigeons as they are found in wood products (e.g., inside the walls of houses, etc.) Lice & regular mites, on the other hand, can be found on pigeons. I have never seen them, however you can fan out the wings & tail to see if there are any 'pin holes' in the feathers. If so, the pigeon has either had or has lice or mites. You can purchase a 'lice & mite' spray from most pet shops or variety store such as Wal Mart, K Mart, etc. You can also buy 'Sevin dust powder' from your local store found in the garden dept. Whichever you use, pay careful attention not to get the product in or around the pigeon's eye, nose or mouth. Can I catch pigeon lice? It is always recommended to wash you hands after handling any pigeons suspected of having an illness or disease, to include lice, no exceptions. Cindy ![]()
