Lice on my birds and what aout worming?

My name is Linda...I'm so new at this. My birds have the reg. lice and I would like to safely rid them of these if possible. The coup is clean. Yikes! after this what about worms? Best food for winter? Thanks so much Linda

Hi Linda and Welcome!

As to the lice .. plain old Sevin dust from the garden shop will do the job. Dust your birds from head to tail, underneath the wings, do the chest and belly, and be careful not to get any in the mouth, eyes, or nares (nostrils). There are several "professional" products available for parasites, but the Sevin dust will get your birds some relief quickly and inexpensively.

As to the worms .. well there is a great debate going on as to what treatment kills what kind(s) of worms. Ivomec is probably a good start and available at your local feed/animal supply store(s).

Please keep us posted, and again, welcome.

Good advice given!

Try the "Sevin" dust and Ivermectin (dose it precisely). Do you have cause to believe these pigeons have worms?

Winter feed? Many members have their special recipes... Wild bird mix fortified with dried split peas and lentils will get them off to a good start!

For lice, mites, and/or flies, try going to a garden shop and buying a Vapona plant. Just cut strips off of it and hang it in your loft and it will keep all that stuff away.
