Sorry that your birds are fighting. Birds will aggressively defend their territory. Do you think the fighting could be caused by too many birds in a confined space?

With a prized treat like peanuts (or a potential mate), birds can purr and even shake with excitement. I have noticed two different wing twitches. If it's mainly the wing tips, they are angry. After a little experience, you can recognize this by just the sound - "flick, flick, flick. Get AWAY from MY nest!!" The other wing twitch I call "baby wings". It's the small wing pumping movements of the entire wing that are part of food begging behavior. Only one of my birds does this and she was hand raised for a while.

Hello,

Terri is probably right about the overcrowding, they will fight, especially if there are both males and females. How many pigeons do you have? What is the size of the cage?

You could seperate the males from females and that should resolve the issue.
If you should decide you don't want to seperate them, they definitely would need more room.

I call it "wing ticking" when they are totally "ticked off" by a bird nearby. They will flick the end of the wing and do the up and down head threat. LOL

They also give the exact same wing flick in a certain mood when wanting attention from the mate--both hens and cocks do it--it's tension energy but it does not have to be negative.

In your loft is there some imbalance to the living accomodations--too few or too many good roosts or nest boxes (though if the population is too dense, forget it, they'll fight).

What are your perches, roosts and/or nest boxes like? How many up high, in the middle or down low do you have? Do you notice them fighting mostly over the high spots?

Do you know how many out of your 8 pigeons are male and how many are female? I'm thinking with more males then females they will fight to win a mate.

If your oldest birds are 7 months, then besides overcrowding, the difference in age will cause the 7 month old pigeons, to take advantage of the younger ones.

Treesa
I think that could be the problem.
